One client job
Job #1187 · 214 Willow Lane
The product items on the job show the quantity needed and how much has been filled from stock.
One record keeps the details current as the work changes.
The short answer
Home staging inventory should show how many of each product are in storage, how many a job needs, how many have been pulled, and what should return after pickup.
Why this gets hard
The same piece can look available in three different lists.
Selections, install sheets, storage counts, and pickup notes often live separately. When one list changes and the others do not, it is easy to promise stock that is no longer available.
A new job needs eight dining chairs, but the storage count does not reflect what was pulled for another property.
The install crew loads from a spreadsheet that no longer matches the products on the job.
Pickup day ends and the returned quantities never make it back into the storage count.
New purchases are difficult to connect to the property and job cost that required them.
A better workflow
Keep storage quantities and job quantities in agreement.
Portara treats the property as a job. Products move out of a storage quantity and onto that job, then back into a chosen storage location after pickup.
Start with an accurate storage count.
Create the products you stock, enter the quantity on hand, and choose the storage location where that quantity lives.
Add the products the staging job needs.
Add sofas, chairs, lamps, art, and accessories to the job with the quantity needed for the property.
Pull the quantity from the right storage location.
Choose “Pull from stock” when adding or editing the job product. Portara reduces stock on hand and shows how much of the job quantity is filled.
Move the job products back to inventory.
After pickup, select the products on the job, choose Inventory, and select the storage location. Portara adds those quantities back to stock.
What to look for
Your inventory system should answer these without detective work.
How many of each product are in each storage location?
How many does this staging job need, and how many have been pulled?
Does the available count already reflect stock pulled onto other jobs?
What product quantities need to return to storage after pickup?
Which purchases and product costs belong to this property?
See it all together
Portara is built for home stagers.
Keep storage quantities, job product needs, purchases, invoices, and crew details tied to the staging job.
Questions, answered
Home staging inventory, in plain English
What is home staging inventory management software?
It helps a staging business track the products it owns, quantities by storage location, job needs, stock pulled onto jobs, returns to storage, and related purchases.
Can Portara track every individual sofa or lamp separately?
Portara currently tracks quantities by catalog product, storage location, and job. It does not serialize every physical unit automatically. A business that needs to distinguish individual pieces can create each one as its own catalog product with a quantity of one.
Can inventory stay connected to the client job?
Yes. Products are added to the staging job alongside services, scheduling, estimates, invoices, payments, notes, and crew details.
Is Portara warehouse software?
No. Inventory is one practical part of Portara’s job management system. It is designed to help service businesses track the products they use and sell without adding warehouse-level complexity.
