Catalog and stock

The product can exist before you own any of it.

The catalog defines what the product is. Stock tracks how many physical units the business owns and where they are stored. Portara connects the two without treating them as the same thing.

Defaults, not rules

Change the line without changing the catalog.

The saved item gets you close. The job or estimate line holds what is true for that customer, so a special quantity, rate, price, markup, or note does not overwrite your usual setup.

Clear answers about catalog items, labor pricing, product defaults, stock availability, markups, and one-off items.

What can I save in the Products and Services catalog?

The catalog supports physical products and labor or services. Products can include a name, description, SKU, category, vendor, default price, tax rate, and default markup. Labor can be hourly or flat rate with default people, hours, rate, and tax settings.

Where can catalog items be used?

Catalog items can be selected when adding scope to a customer job or building an estimate. Their saved defaults populate the new line item and can then be adjusted for that specific use.

Can I change the price or quantity for one job?

Yes. Catalog values are defaults, not locked values. Change the people, hours, quantity, rate, price, markup, tax, or notes without changing the reusable catalog item.

Can I add something without saving it to the catalog?

Yes. Add a custom labor or product line directly to a job or estimate when the item is unique and does not need to become a reusable catalog entry.

How does the product catalog relate to inventory?

The catalog defines the product, while inventory tracks the physical quantity at storage locations. The Products and Services page can show total availability and the locations holding a catalog product.

Can products use markup presets?

Yes. A product can use a saved default markup preset or a custom markup percentage. That default is available when the product is added to a job or estimate.
